Oh my goodness... I cannot believe I did not post this picture!
In August 2013, last summer, I did my first wedding cake!
It was a 3 tier ALL buttercream cake - 3 different flavours.
Top and bottom tiers in rosette design and the middle was plain. Smooth buttercream.
I was very happy with how it turned out! I am so happy that middle tier came out as smooth as it did!

A cake filled weekend.... and a knee injury...
Well... for anyone who knows me... knows that I am a GoodLife junkie... I LOVE the GoodLife and as a favourite instructor calls us... the GoodLife family. It is kind of like a family... you see these same people 4-5 times per week. We sweat together, we grunt together, we cry together... it's family.
But recently, my GoodLife family has been distant... I have been suffering through a recent diagnosis of Patella Tracking Disorder... yuppers... my kneecaps don't like to stay "on track" and this causes quite a bit of pain and swelling... oh and clicking and grinding too!
So a week off the GoodLife and trip to the doctor's office and the medical imaging place to get some x-rays. I am still waiting on the result of the X-rays to determine the next steps to deal with this...
But before all this came about a few weeks ago, I had already taken on 2 new cake orders for this past weekend.
10 hours on my feet Saturday making this cake...
and low and behold... later that night... I could barely walk :(
But in the end, my client loved the cake so it is absolutely well worth the day of pain :)
The following day... after the night of pain, I had to make another cake for a client to pick up on Monday. This one didn't take as long... but after the whole weekend... needless to say I was not back to my GoodLife family on Monday as planned.
I LOVED making this cake... it was a sewing themed cake and I messaged the cake with "Thank you sew much". This cake was for a client and some friends who wanted to thank another friend who had been teaching them how to sew. And let's not forget that this cake was also my favourite flavour... vanilla bean cake with vanilla bean buttercream and my homemade raspberry sauce... yummm... soooooo good!
I loved how the measuring tape around the bottom turned out. Who knew edible markers worked so well... I used them on the top cake too!

Off roading anyone?
I received a recent referral to make a fun off roading/jeep cake for a 30th birthday party. He likes to go off roading in his jeep and she had pitched a great idea (sent a pic of something she was kind of looking for... a muddy off road look).
Well can I tell you that it is really super hard to find a jeep anywhere? I looked everywhere. Short of paying $50 for a die cast model... I finally found a remote control jeep in Toys R Us. At least the birthday boy will have a toy to play with after!
I couldn't put the jeep on because I was scared that it was going to move during transport. And the jeep also had a "30" tied to the back wheel to be dragged behind in the "mud."

Fun treats for the shop!
So it's been a while since I've been to Hands on Catering to deliver treats or cupcakes. The winter was harsh and our small town just wasn't feeling the need for cupcake treats. I guess we were all just trying to stay warm.
Maybe this summer we'll pick back up and some of my treats will be in the shop again!
But check out some of the fun treats I made for fun Shelburne events over the summer!

These were some fun chocolate/caramel and toffee cake pops
Whoopie pie anyone? Chocolate chip cookie whoopie pie?
Chocolate/Caramel and Toffee whoopie pie
A fun trio of flavours... from the left... Neopolitan cupcake, Chocolate Peanut Butter, White Chocolate Raspberry
Kind of like Duck Dynasty...
Have you ever watched Duck Dynasty?
I tried once to see what all the fuss was about... I found it a little boring to be honest...
But to each their own...
I was asked to make a birthday cake for young lady who LOVES Duck Dynasty... well at this time I had never seen it. But was also told she LOVES camo, atv's and anything "redneck-ish". A tomboy they would say...
So I came up with this rad idea to make a camo cake... outside AND inside! That's right... when you cut open the cake... it was camo inside!
I only wish I could have been there to see the cut!

Daisy Flower Pots
OK, so I guess I am very behind on the times.
I know since I don't have children that I am not hip to the new trends... but boy was I shocked when I realized the lengths parents go through for teachers gifts at the end of the year or at christmas time.
Wow... I never did anything like this for my teachers nor did my mom! Guess times have changed huh...
These were lovely giant cupcakes stuffed inside clay flowers pots.

A unique design... and a surprise inside!
This was just a small 6" cake made for a co-workers mother's birthday. A fun design she found that she asked me to replicate. It was a lot of fun, super easy to make and turned out very neat looking!
And the cake inside.... pumpkin spice with cinnamon cream cheese frosting! Yummm!!!!

Hello Kitty!
As I am sure you've all seen... I make a birthday cake for my dear friend Kim's daughter Talon every year.
Well low and behold, Talon's birthday fell during my vacation...
I was quite disappointed that I was not going to be there to make Talon's cake this year.
But I had a little surprise for her... You can't have a birthday without a cake from Auntie Miller!

Pretty Cherry Blossoms
If you have read through some of my original posts, you will read the I was inspired by a friend's birthday on Christmas Day.
Well, this friend also likes to task me to make elaborate cakes at the last minute! But how can you say now to your inspiration?
This friends mom was turning 65 this Easter Weekend. I was asked to make a cake a week ago. That doesn't seem that hard, right? Well, when you work full time, workout at the gym 4 days a week AND already have other orders, that can be difficult.
She wanted the cake on Monday of the long weekend. Fine... I can make that work.
No... wait... maybe Sunday... OK, I think I can squeeze that in.
What about Saturday?
Seriously? I am also moving my BFF this weekend... so no, Saturday does not work.
OK wait, I can meet you Saturday morning. Fine. Deal.
Next day... well, things have changed and we are having dinner Friday night now, but I know you just can do that...
What time Kim? What time do you need it?
4pm would be the latest...
Fine... I will meet you at 3pm Friday.
And this is what came out of this...
How do you say no to your inspiration when it creates beautiful cakes like this?
Thanks Kim!

Marvel - who doesn't love Superhero's?
So I was recently tasked with making a Marvel cake and cupcakes for a young boy's birthday. I hadn't been this excited to make a cake in a while... I was stoked.
And I am equally happy with the end result.
Vanilla cake made into Captain America's shield and one dozen cupcakes to match with Ironman, Hulk and Batman symbols! I LOVE MARVEL!

It's been a while... what I've been up to...
WOW! It has been so long since I last posted anything... July to be exact by the looks of it!
Guess I've been busy!
2013 was a BUSY year for me. Lots of extra work and lots of new fun cake and cupcake orders kept me busy. All that extra work led up to a much anticipated and long awaited Dominican Vacation in February of this year! And boy was it worth it.
But it's now April and I am back in full swing and with many new cake orders coming my way!
It was a long and ugly winter... and not too many people had cake on their menu this winter... everyone was just trying to survive! But with the snow almost gone and the sun starting to shine again, people are ready for cake!
Let there be cake! So sit back and enjoy some pics of the most recent stuff I've been doing!
Welcome back!
